I've built my 3DFX machine around a Pentium 4 2,6Ghz and a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP thanks to the universal AGP slot on the motherboard!

Probably not the usual kind of "hardware", but a dumpster is a dumpster.

Is there anybody that know this -2 decades old- speakers manufacturer ?

Does anybody have any tips for dumpster diving, particularly for small towns in Canada? I used to live near a recycle depot many years back that had all sorts of tech goodies, but they closed and I've since moved to a different town. The recycle depot here never seems to have anything good, and it's a fair distance from my house. As well, they don't let you go digging in the sea cans.

The tech at my school knows to give me anything he would otherwise trash so this time I received a Packard Bell iMedia system. I usually turn my nose up at such systems but, after investigating its specs, I found a Tualeron under the heatsink. Never had one of these so was curious (makes a great overclocker apparently). Powered it up and the lights were on but no one was in (got nowhere near POSTing). Did a partial recap but that made no difference either. Tried another CPU - success! I guess the Tualeron is toast. Will try it on another board . None of my socket 370 Celerons will work with this board but my full PIIIs do. Plus my 1.4Ghz Tualatin! I did a lot of research on platforms supporting the Tualatin and the 810EB never came up as being one of them. Glad I saved this one. Shame no ISA or AGP so it's gaming options are limited. Might make a handy Win2k test machine though.

Edit: the motherboard's spec refer to the chipset as 810EB, but the official name is 810E2 (810E, B-stepping)

Tualerons are pretty fun to work with,and interesting. For example,I got a 1.1GHz Tualeron run at 1.4,along with a 512MB stick.

I still have a Tualeron I got for free - L&C LC-B350ATX PSU (why am I not surprised I find these most of the time? 🤣),a 60GB Maxtor,a MX400 (which I killed out of stupidity trying to recap it) and a ECS P6VXAT (694T) motherboard with,lo' and behold,EDO SDRAM out of a IBM machine. Trying to find a better BIOS (from other 694T boards) for the ECS though,it's a pretty nice board (after I recapped it,I ain't trustin' those green OSTs on it) but the BIOS on it is pretty bland,if not really boring as it can get. There's no SuperIO chip,but the clock generator is present (some ICS chip,those are really easy to work with) so I may still have something to work with.

As for the L&C,I actually completed it where I could,even went as far as adding a PPFC (or so I've heard it's called) PCB. Just need to upgrade the rectifiers and it's ready to be used on whatever system I may build. Can't decide what my next build will be based on - Slot 1 (PIII 500MHz Katmai,i440BX w/ ISA),Socket 478 (Pentium 4 2.8GHz Northwood,845E).

Yeah this is an issue I'm going to have as it has the OEM's crappy BIOS on it (I'm assuming - I've not actually investigated yet). It's annoying when you've got a bunch of S370 boards and you're trying to work out which one ticks all the boxes:

• ISA
  AGP
  FSB options in the BIOS
  Tualatin support

and you find out that they all have one or two of these features but not all of them. It's a tricky business.

Today I really got lucky as there was plenty of trash to pick. Got this home along with two complete AT mini-tower systems (socket 7 and 286-16). I haven't tested anything yet but I already know that the WinFast A250 card has some bad caps which will have to be replaced. Hope that's the only problem it has. Don't be surprised, if you find some of this stuff on eBay next month as I'm pretty tight on cash right now. There was also a Soyo 486 board but it was in such bad condition that I decided to leave it there.

Well, it's not from a dumpster but my friend just gave this to me (he had bought it from an auction for less than 20€). Compaq 486 DX4-75MHz laptop. 😊

I briefly had one of those, albeit a step or two above this model (4/75CXL) with the larger TFT screen. The floppy drive did not work due to a broken belt. Finding a replacement was impossible, and in the process I learned that these laptops were notorious for broken floppy drives.

A little newer, my wife's ex was emitting l emptying out his dad's garage and came across a Satellite 110CS. He knows about my interests and said he 'didn't have the heart to throw it away'. Thank goodness!

CMOS battery is dead of course but it boots. Has been upgraded from the stock 8mb to 24mb and from the stock Windows 95 to 98. Hard drive is going clunk occasionally and the drivers aren't setup properly. It crashes when itry to browse the file system. No built in audio and I have no PCMCIA solution. Also I hate passive matrix screens but hey, it works! Need to test the floppy drive.

A friend was having a clear out of all his old hardware and asked me if i wanted to take a look at have what i wanted. I came away with An Audigy Sound Card, Creative 3D Blaster Banshee and a BFG 7800GS OC AGP. Really please with those 3 pieces.

Nice catch!

A bit heartbreaking for me as my Creative Voodoo Banshee PCI died due to bad bga solder joints. Reflowing did help for a while, until it died completly.
Also the VGA port on my Geforce 7800GS AGP has the red color shorted to ground, resulting in a blueish image..
I'm not sure if this a pattern with the Geforce 6 and 7 cards but i already got a 6600GT and a 6800 with the same symptom. Not sure what goes wrong in there. Gladly the DVI output works flawlessly.

Ok, long story short, i was asked to take these to the e-waste bin, and i asked if i could keep it all instead. Gladly i could 😁

Take a look at the inside and OMG, the size of the power supply and even omg'er! SEVEN Hard Drives! Two IDE and five SCSI in some sort of RAID arrangement

Even better, the board supports Dual Pentium III (Two Pentiums 733 Mhz)! It's a Gigabyte ga-6vxd7, and unfourtanely i think it doesn't support Tualatins very well

How many dumpsters do you guys go through to find hardware/how many does it take or have you worked out dumpster locations that get a high amount of hardware dumps and if so how was that determined?

The later Blue & White version of the G3 is nicer, mostly because of the inclusion of USB. I hope you are able to find an ADB mouse! It will also dual boot OSX alongside OS9. More info here:

I should recap the Dual Pentium board though. Also can you even imagine the sound of 5 old SCSI hard drives and 2 IDE hard drives along with a ton of fans powering on? Sound's like it's about to take off! Eargasm!

A friend of mine this afternoon called me to ask if I wanted his 'old' hardware parts... of course! Nothing of REAL old (my retro-hardware ideal is different), but I'm happy to save these pieces from sure destruction:

How do you know when something is less of a hobby and more of a state of mind? When you go on holiday to an idyllic, technology-free location and you manage to find an old computer while looking in a cupboard for towels and get really excited.

Although my stock of 386 systems is quite healthy at the moment, my stock of AT cases is not. Plus I have no 5 1/4 drives. So this system made me smile.

I was hoping for a 286 as I don't have one yet. But this will do nicely for my early nineties gaming system. Trident 8900C VGA card, Intel soldered 386 @ 16MHz, no co-pro, and a CHIPS chipset. Loving the case in particular. Lack of Sound Blaster made me sad.

Do you maybe have a picture of that LCD MHZ display on the back of it.. Iam curious what its written on the PCB.

More stuff from the dumpster. This time I got an Iskra Delta Partner computer without anything else. It's a locally produced computer by a company called Iskra Delta. Inside there's a standard 286 board with coprocessor and what seem to be Hercules graphics. There's also a massive hard drive (double height) and a floppy drive (probably 360K).

Everything is full of dust and I'd like to clean it before testing. The power switch is kind of wobbly and I suspect it's broken. Not sure whether I did it when I tried to set the case down the wrong way or it was that way already when I got it.

In another dumpster there was this lovely Sound Blaster, an S3 Trio and a Pentium 166 MMX from a beaten up socket 7 machine.

Can't add attachments, I'm getting an error "The extension jpg is not allowed."
