Hello everyone! Last few days I tried to make at least like 180-200 results (Everest) for memory reading performance. And I got something between 70 and 150.
I installed that hacked K6-2+ 575 and run it as K6-III+ 600mhz 100x6 easily. But then I discovered what is bottle neck. If I install only AGP in there and fresh W98 - It shows me near 260MB score!
But then I add cards: ISA SB16 (no effect obviously), Ethernet (no effect), SB Audigy 2 (some effect on memory speed) and then on top of it NEC USB 2.0. Let's stop there a little bit.
I have HP 4 internal ports (2 headers) USB 2.0 card with NEC chip on it.
If I occupy two internal ports as a front hub (no devices connected) it is decreasing memory by around 180, then I'm trying to populate other two with multi card reader and 1 rear USB header and I got like 113-130 the most and near 50-70 in Sandra 2000! 50? 50??? 😀
It's hard to say what's going on in real life performance. But question is - IS IT NORMAL, decreasing speed from 260 to 70 basically just because of PCI card? Sorry my ignorance, I don't exactly understand relationship between SS7 MVP3 and USB 2.0 card.
I turned on Memory Allocation and Interleave Enabler is on, but that helped just a little for benchmarks. Everest is optimistic - around 113-140, but 113 is bottom line under PC60 EDO with Pentium 166. I watched Phil's video about my mobo and it sucks out of other contestants, but his results are not that far from each other. And last thing about EVEREST it is acting weird sometimes in CPU/memory benchmark. It is showing like write speed 538! for memory and then L1 cache write speed 140, when read is 4700, then cache for L2 write same as L1 like 140. But sometimes it's good around 4500+ for L1 cache and near 1000 for L2 read and less for write. Weird stuff going on. I ordered another modded K6-2+ 575 as K6-III+. And I tried SOYO SY-5EMA+ and it has faster performance, but ps/2 ports on mobo are dead and UDMA 33 only and at the end I got near the same performance when I connected everything back to mobo....
Unfortunately I don't have those TOP Mobos like Gigabyte Ga-5A or Asus P5... but at least I have two other which supposed to be not THAT bad.

Right now I ran 3D Marks with Voodoo 3 2000 and score:
2052 3D Marks and 5368 CPU

DOS Performance (SpeedSys):
CPU - passed Athlon 600 point
Cache L1: 2796
Cache L2: 1674
Memory: 159

Am I too paranoid? Or this is normal RAM behavior? I definitely need two front USB and card reader at least, don't know how to make DFI suffer less 😀
All other ports I disabled, like onboard USB, two serial and parallel, just to give more sources to mobo.

SPECS ARE:
MOBO: DFI K6XV k6xv3+/66

USB 2.0 cards are known to really slow down Socket 7 systems. Slow AMD K6-2+ 550 MHz performance?

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?
