I have already posted this topic on the Tandy/Radio Shack VCF forum in the hopes of an answer. So far no one has come up with anything.

I know Radio Shack never released sales figures for the Tandy 1000, but I have always been curious as to the number of units sold during it's time in the 80s and early 90s. I know that in 1986 it accounted for 9.5% of all US computer sales, so the number must certainly have been several million at least. Just wanted to put the question out there if someone has the answer.

We've got estimates here of around a million a year, due to outselling C64.. (bottom of page)

... they admit they can't make more than 50,000 a month??

However, are we seeing commodore's worldwide figure for C64 against Tandy's US only figure? Maybe they outsell C64 in US. Also subsequent to 1986 do they beef up manufacturing, AST seems to have been happy to buy out their manufacturing facilities for $175 million in the early 90s, so it's probably not clapped out plant they were making TRS-80s on and had some improvements.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

That Tandy 1000 was a lot less common overseas than in the US, so worldwide sales figures would more than likely favor the C64.
