I am not sure what to look for in a PSU for a build I am throwing together. Here are the general specs:
MSI K7 Pro MB
Athlon Slot A 750 Pluto CPU
Asus V6800 (Geforce256) GPU
SB Live card

I see talk about the 5v and 3.3v combined watts and amps and all but can’t quite wrap my head around it all yet.

Can anyone explain the specs I should be going for? I currently have a 400 W Dynex (pic below) in storage but wanted to be sure this would work before I start frying components.

28A on the +5V rail should be more than enough.
The rest isn't that important.

You could open and inspect the internals first, see if anything looks weird, the capacitors for example.

Then hookup an expendable HDD or other load for the PSU, see if it doesn't release the magic smoke or if a white flag is coming through the fan grill.

That PSU should be perfectly fine for a Slot A board and CPU, the whole +5v thing is mostly for certain Socket370/Socket A boards. Your PSU has +28A on the +5v rail and +30A on the 3.3v rail so itll work with no issues, just be sure to test it before you throw it back into active use on your Slot A system.
