Something I have wondered for a while is why did some early socket 7 motherboards have official support for the following
FSBs

40mhz (m567/69 have it)
45mhz
55mhz
62mhz
68mhz (62&68 listed as turbo freq)
80mhz (on a board with no 75mhz setting)
90mhz (m590 “super 7” board w/ 4.2vio)

All of these seem rather pointless and I’m not sure what some were even for.

Any ideas what people would have used these speeds for?

A lot of this probably has to do with Cyrix/IBM 6x86 having odd clock frequencies like 40, 55, 75 and 83 MHz. Rise MP6 chips also had 75, 83 and 95.

That's the "official" part, but don't forget about overclocking as well — it was a thing for both S3 and S5/S7 chips.
