Im trying to connect my win98 pc to an O/S with NTFS which will hold dvd isos. is there a way to netwrok the 98 pc to the pc with ntfs on the cheap?

Don't you already have another thread asking this?

Use a straighthrough cable if one of the NICs are at least 1gb. A crossover if there isn't.
