Hello all,
I am playing with my STL2 board, trying to understand if the pci-x slots can be used with a pci/pcie adapter with a GPU.
PCI-X slots are 64bit 66Mhz, the adapter is a PLX8111 that can work at 66Mhz so at least double the bandwidth of a regular PCI will be guaranteed.

So far I had only problems, resumed here:

First, whenever I put a the adapter with or without the gpu, the STL2 recognised it as an external disk controller and try to boot from it.
So I have the message “missing NTLDR…”.
Overcoming that with some tricks led me to enter Windows XP pro in VGA safe mode only, because the combination of adapter+gpu create resource conflict with the pci slot itself (code 12).
The adapter alone is recognised without problems.
I think the problem is within the combination.
And I used several gpus, some of them exist with PCI slot so I was expecting no issues:
Hd5450
Gt610
HD7750 (just an attempt, I know PCI slot cannot handle its power requirement)
9400GT
Same conflict

I tried also a Matrox driver for the adapter that installed without problems, but again, adapter + gpu leads to code 12 error.

Any advice?

Anyone?
I saw others having same problem as me in putting gpus in pci-x adapter (but in regular pci they work).
How is that?
Why? Makes no sense…
