Hello.

I (who lean to build with period correct parts) would pick the following:

PC 1 (Win98):
- Pentium 3 1000mhz / 384mb ram sdr 133mhz / agp slot
- Geforce4 mx440 64mb 128bit MSI

PC2 (WinXP):
- Pentium 4 3000mhz / 1gb ram ddr 400mhz / agp slot
- Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb

If you opted to build just one system to dual boot W98 and XP:
- Pentium 4 3000mhz / 1gb ram ddr 400mhz / agp slot
- Geforce FX5700 256mb INNO3D TORNADO

None of these make a very good XP PC.

Pentium 3 1000mhz / 384mb ram sdr 133mhz / agp slot
Geforce4 mx440 64mb 128bit MSI

is indeed decently balanced for W98. The FX5600 would be also good, but better suited for a faster CPU, but on the other hand, a fine choice for nGlide.

Pentium 4 3000mhz / 1gb ram ddr 400mhz / agp slot
Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb

Is good for dual booting XP and W98. Won't be ideal for early W9x era compatibility, but it will be good enough, and it will be underpowered past 2005 games and lack compatibility once SM3.0 games start popping up.

In the meenwhile I'd look for a decent board for the E6700 and pick up something like a 9600GT or faster on the cheap. The reason for looking a better mobo for the Dual Core is that those combo boards almost always have only 4x PCI-e and can't run most graphics cards

Agree with above using the P3 for Win98, and your spoilt for graphic cards choice, personally I'd choose the FX5600 that way you can enable AA, AF, etc
XP faster is always better so would go with the dual core and best PCI-E card you have (I'm assuming the XP box doesn't need to dual boot into 98)

Need a voodoo card for dos games? Or would it be geforce 4 mx 440? I'm asking for image quality. Would the radeon 9000 series be suitable for dos games and games up to 2002? I want antialising.

for windows 98
Pentium 3 1000mhz and radeon (9550, 9600 xt, 9800 pro)
