Hi all,

I have two socket 7 mainboards that I've acquired over time just because they were "bundled" at good prices with something else that was on my "wish-list" (i.e. a couple of cards and a K5 PR100).

The first one, being a rather poor board, I was planning on using it as a "sacrifice machine", and by that I means a combo where I first test components which I don't trust and don't want them to fry a "good" (or at lest "better") board.

Now I got this second board and I gather it is a better one, but I can't find enough about it to decide if this one should be my sacrificial board (and I might sell the other one), or if it has any niceties that make it interesting enough to keep it safe, or what...

The first one is a "PCChips M519" With an "Opti Viper-M 82C556M/7M/8M" chipset.
(AFAIKT it doesn't even support MMX processors)

The second one is an Acer "AcerPower Ultima" M3A with an "HX" Intel chipset.

I tested both work, but in the hurry didn't pay attention to their onboard cache details.

Any comments are appreciated.
TIA.

The M519 does not have on board cache, needs a specific COAST cache stick, no MMX or Non-3.3/3.45v cpu support.
The Acer has onboard cache, lists P54C/P55C and has a jumper for it so does support Intel MMX.
I would use the M519 for testing and keep the Acer for a spare/build/etc. If you do not have room then keep the Acer and sell the M519.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
