Yeah I remember a member here talking about one a few years ago. Hard to believe MS was that deep into hardware at one point....

I caught an old article in Compute! about the Mach 20 and started vaguely wanting one. It's kinda funny though, it was like our software runs too slow, improve it? Nah, sell hardware speedups. 🤣 Though windows 1.0 was kinda bad so never quite figured out if that was the loss leader to sell mice or vice versa.
The accelerator story does have an interesting cause for their popularity in the 80s... apparently accountancy practices depreciated equipment over 7 years, so if your PC was too slow after 3 years, too bad, no budget for new equipment. But if you could sneak in an accelerator under the maintenance budget or buy it from your office supplies retailer, then you were good to fly under the beancounters radar 🤣
Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
