VOGONS

I have a matrox mga g200a (at least that's what it says on the chipset), I've downloaded drivers from matrox and vogons drivers library, but the installer can't find my card. When trying to choose the driver manually through the device manager, it alerts me that it is not the ideal driver, I install it anyway, and restart. When Windows 98 starts up the gui, I only see the mouse cursor, it is possible to move the cursor, but it will stay like that indefinitely, or if I ctrl alt del, the system will freeze.

My card appears to come from a compaq system, there is a sticker that says mgi g2+ dmila. Wonder if this only works with proprietary compaq drivers?

I ran a matrox diagnostic program, and everything looked fine, it tells me it's a rev 3 card, but it can't determine which subvendor and submodel.

1) First of all clean the AGP contacts with stationery eraser and reseat card in slot.
2) Matrox cards sometimes lost software pins-parameters. Search for Matrox BIOS and PINS recovery. There was official utility for PIN recovery, and some threads here and other forums with non-official methods - http://www.murc.ws/archive/index.php/t-41550.html

Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉

Sorry, I forgot to say, I already tried to clean the connector, I cleaned the entire board with isopropyl alcohol, even though the board is cosmetically very good.

I tried to use the bios utility, I followed the instructions putting the files in c:\matrox\util\, but when I open the ProgApp the screen goes black, and the system hangs. If I insist on pressing keys, there is a blue screen about problems with VXD (does not identify any VXD, it just shows me "VXD ---"). When I run it in another folder/location, the program opens but tells me it didn't find the bios file.

I downloaded these programs directly from Matrox's FTP

It's just found out that my board lost the pins. I'll try to recover it, and then post the result here

Isopropyl is good, but try to clean contacts with stationery eraser.

I think I'll have to reprogram the chip on an eeprom burner, I tried the procedure, and ended up with a bunch of artifacts
