I never did get this to work. I switched to an XT-IDE with attached compact flash slot and am using an 8GB Verbatim CF card and it works perfectly.

Maybe someday someone will make an XT-SD or XT-SATA, or a new IDE2SD adapter with better compatibility (hopefully with opensource firmware that can be updated). For now, continue to avoid SD adapters with the XT-IDE. There is no way to ensure any particular adapter will work.
