Pentium 233 MMX, Rage 128 Pro - PCI

Hey Team,

I recently put together a Pentium 1 - 233 MMX. and a Rage 128 Pro. (All in wonder). I am only getting 20 FPS on Unreal and around the same on Quake 2 (GL), 3dMark99 is at 1276. Any ideas if that is about the correct performance? Would changing out the Video card make a difference? or am i just at a CPU limit here?

The Rage 128 Pro should yield decent performance in those games, but I suspect you're being limited by the Pentium MMX 233.

I'd suggest pairing the Rage 128 Pro with a Pentium II or faster system for better performance.

Your 3dmark 99 scores seems pretty good for a 233 MMX, so I would say you are CPU limited.

I have another system that is a K62+ 400. That system should play those games pretty well, so i will try my rage pro 128 in there. I have heard of an ATI patch for Quake 2 (Does not help me here) - DO you know if there is an MMX patch ? I seem to remember playing quake 2 on a P233 - Though I may be wrong on that.

You may confuse it with the 3DNow! patch for AMD K6 CPUs. It will help you on your K6 system, but not on the 233 MMX.

I played Quake 2 on my Pentium 166 MMX with a Voodoo 1 back in 1997, looking back the framerate wasnt good, but I didnt complain.

Q2 plays fine on mmx, 20fps is what you perceived as fine in the nineties 😀
with gf2MX you could bump that to ~30fps
