Looks like it might be for a boot ROM dongle.

Ordered a motherboard today, I don't know what the manufacturer and model is (I'll have to investigate), but it's an XT (or clone), the seller wasn't very knowledgeable about what he was selling, he said it was a stock item, and that it was practically new, perhaps it could be, but there is no certainty about this.
I add some photos, in one detail there are some writings, which could help identify the card, at least I hope.

Just grabbed a MediaVision Pro AudioSpectrum 16 (600-0022-01 Rev.F) in a lot of random cards. Appears to be in “like new” condition. I love the history with these cards.

Nice to see a PAS, as a kid I was intrigued by the number of components on these cards.

High quality cards. Back in the day it was MediaVision vs Creative like 3dfx vs nVidia.

Necroware has a great little video on these cards https://youtu.be/_7P8anriPbA?si=5cHoEn0SUvkzThQE

Thanks a lot friend, the link is very interesting, some components have been updated, in particular I would say the video card, but I have a suitable video card, I think it's a Hercules, as soon as I have it in my hands, I'll take more photos and I'll write about it in the my MB page.
I hope to find a manual somewhere, maybe in PDF format, just to understand who produced it.
I saw that there are some RAM chip sockets available, maybe finding them could expand the RAM from 640KB to 1MB?

Nice XT clone board without parity. Is that an onboard speaker at the top right? Looks like it also has the provision to add the external speaker at bottom right. Wondering if it’ll boot with that ROM as the shields been removed.

I was watching that auction myself, The PAS and the XT IDE Pro in there were the two I was interested in but not enough to bid on it, the other cards are just assorted junk. The 3Com network card might be useful if thrown into an XT/286 with the PASS and XT IDE, Im guessing all three cards came from the same machine originally.

I dont have an XT IDE Pro but I also dont have an XT or 286 to use it in either and I dont have a use case for a PAS so I just sat back and watched the bid war 🤣.

Thank you very much, I don't currently have it, but within a few days, it should arrive, I'm looking for info and a manual (if there is somewhere), and in fact it seems like a speaker to me too, I hope it works, from what I know it should have around 640 KB of RAM (I guess), and a frequency of around 5 MHz (or more???).

I don't find a lot of info about this cute little thing. Recovery CD's seem not to exist.
Had to change CPU (dead? MMX 166 with a 200), the hard drive (click of death),the optical drive (struggling to read CD-R(W) but working fine with original CD's) and the front panel was broken off (superglue to the rescue)
I upgraded the RAM to 32MB. It seems that my 64MB sticks show up as 16MB only so I just added another 16MB stick.
I chose W95C as the OS.
It has a CL-GD5446BV-HC-A and a Crystal CX4236B installed.
Not much expandability in this thing. 1 half-height ISA slot with an ancient modem in it. I might need to find the drivers for it to 'complete' the system.
The built-in speakers are of pretty good quality I must say.

That is so cool, I want one of those systems...

but good lord, the design choice to let one speaker be larger than the other... That person should never be allowed to make any sort of aesthetics decision ever again. Either put the floppy above the cd drive, or make a 3.5" bay under the right speaker.

Now, if anyone cares, I'll be in the Angry Dome™

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Lol.
I really like this PC. It's the first time I see one.
I read somewhere they weren't that popular, same with the almost identical 2xxx series.

The bold designs of multimedia PCs were, in my opinion, the height of the "90s" industrial design. Manufacturers were going out of their way to try and distinguish themselves form the compensation with eye-catching shapes and features.

The surviving PC manufacturers are so large and dominant nowadays that they just shovel whatever new product comes along without any distinguishing characteristics about them. Very boring.

One design I felt was problematic though was the Compaq laptops which doubled the speaker grills as palm rests. Once they started to trap skin oils and dirt, was there even a way to clean them?

Lol yeah I’m not sure why they were fighting it out before the end of the auction. I was determined to get that PAS16 to finish a early 486 build. My max bid was $250. Glad it went for much less. I’ll probably use that XT IDE in a XT build one day. I already have a Western Digital Paradise NT-200B 512KB (WDC90C00-JK) - Fastest 8086 XT video card (apparently).

Love the look of this PC. Reminds me of my Pentium 66’s case back in the day. Similar design but not as modern looking. The speakers on that also sounded good.

Thrift store visit today yielded an Antec Earthwatts 500 for the price of a big mac, seemed in decent shape and good for a spare. Nearly took a Delta 500 too, but noticed a dog or something had chewed up the connectors, not so good for a spare, still heavy enough for a doorstop, then there was a coolmax or something that was neither good for a spare or doorstop due to being featherweight.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
