I have this exact motherboard: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/compaq … 1-001-roadrunne

It comes with 4 sticks of 256Kb of RAM, i want to upgrade it to 8 MB or 16MB.
There is lot of listings of 4x4MB or 4x2MB of non-parity RAM that i can buy, but parity i only can find 256KB like the ones i already have and sometimes 1MB sticks, but much more rare.

Will this motherboard work with non-parity RAM?

In this pdf of the chipset on page 54 it shows that have an option of disabling parity: https://theretroweb.com/chip/documentation/wd … 91130996911.pdf

But i dont know if its automatic or i have to do something else to activate it, or even if that is possible in my motherboard. Any tips?

What is the problem in finding 4MB SIMMs?
Just search for "4MB SIMM 30 pin" or maybe better "30pin SIMM 4MB".
To be on the safe side I would go for lower density chips and with parity, so each module with 9 chips.
2MB SIMMs are not supported according to the link above, but 2MB SIMMs are exotic anyhow.

But you are right, the ones without parity are a lot cheaper than the ones with parity.

The problem is literally that one, 4 MB x 4 with parity+ shipping almost 100€, no parity i can find them as low as 30. Thats why i wanted to know if my motherboard would accept it
