Revised my results, you were right mau1wurf1977 now I get 71.4. 🤣
Seems to have been because the CPU to PCI buffer was disabled in the bios. No idea why, I got this machine as a whole so I never checked the jumpers or bios settings.
Ok I've ran this stuff on my Compaq Deskpro 386/20E
CPU: Cyrix 386->486 upgrade cpu running at 40mhz (1k L1 cache)
Mainboard: Compaq's own stuff
Amount of RAM: 16mb
Amount of L2 Cache: 32k
Video card: Ati Mach32 DRAM 2mb ISA
3dbench score: 15,3
Will bench one of my Eisa 486 systems shortly which has speedy VLB gfx
3Dbench gave 15.8 fps for below system:
CPU: AMD 386DX-40 MHz
MOBO: MB-4D50L (OPTi 82C495 SX chipset), 256 kiB cache
RAM: 4 x 4 MiB 60 ns
Graphics card: #9GXE (S3 928) ISA
That motherboard is 386DX/486 hybrid motherboard and it has two VLB slots. I could try some VLB cards if you are interested how they perform on a 386.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the #9GXE has 1 MiB DRAM + 2 MiB VRAM. It has a wait state jumper and it is set to zero. Motherboard ISA divider is set to 5 so ISA clock rate is 8 MHz as it should. So nothing is over clocked.
no surprises there, my PS1/pro could just be a PS2 variant without the EISA/MCA slots. This machine uses 72pin ECC ram 😳 which is quite weird for a 386sx-only pc (cpu soldered onboard , no upgrade slots)
another weird IBM thing is that the 1.44MB floppy has no power connector, it gets it's power from the standard floppy calbe... 😮
Does you mainboard have a jumper for 33 or 25 MHz (instead of 40)?
It does and 25 MHz is the slowest it supports. Here are results for 25, 33 and 40 MHz. I also tested with VLB card since I wanted to know is there any benefit from having VLB on a 386. There isn't. I got only a little better results with VLB card. The difference is so small that I cannot even be sure is it because of VLB or because of better graphics chip.
CPU: AMD 386DX-40 MHz (same CPU underclocked for 33 MHz and 25 MHz tests)
Mainboard: MB-4D50L (OPTi 82C495 SX chipset)
Amount of RAM: 16 MiB (4 x 4 MiB, 60 ns)
Amount of External Cache: 256 kiB, 15 ns
Video card (ISA tests): #9GXE (S3 928)
Video card (VLB tests): #9GXE64 (S3 864)
