Im building a Pentium 2 machine for DOS games, and DOS emulators

Currently I have a Pentium 2 333mhz 66mhz bus, 512 cache at 1/2 speed

People, you think a Celeron Mendocino 333mhz 66mhz bus, with 128kb cache but full speed, will outperform my Pentium 2?

Why 333mhz? I detect that some games, like, Lotus 3 or jazz jackrabbit, dont work over 333mhz, with error 200. Other games, happen same, different error

Thanks!

The reviews of these CPUs are still online. Mendocino is very competitive with PII and often more overclockable.

I'm not sure about your question, but you can usually patch executables with tppatch to fix runtime error 200:

Thanks, already know about this patches. I always believe that was only for software, not games, that's why never tried

I test with lotus, but it seems that or is not a pascal or is a compressed exe

I saw many reviews, but sadly, all of them, talk about performance on Windows applications. For sure Photoshop, a big Excel spreadsheet, or 3DStudio Max benefits from a bigger cache...

But DOS games? that's my doubt

I tried to buy a mendocino, but are not easy to find, and not cheap for sure!! 😒
