My abandonware gaming laptop (Compaq Armada 7400) has a built-in ESS Audiodrive 1879.

The sound card is really good for a laptop and supports General Midi which makes supported games like ROTT, Duke3d, Doom, Doom II etc sound really amazing, almost like an AWE32 etc. I'm guessing it has a midi wave table or something to give those results.

I was wondering if there is some sort of MT-32 or AWE32 emulation for this card via software ?

Funnily in some games, for example 4D Sports Driving and F1GP (Microprose) which don't support General Midi in Setup instead I selected Roland MT-32 and it worked with the Midi music sounding amazing.
