I have a CT-3600 Sound Blaster 32 which works perfectly on my old system in Windows 98. It was fully detected and works great in the both Win 98 and Command Prompt.

But I also want to install a driver in pure DOS. I tried installing an AWE 32 DOS driver (I read on Wikipedia AWE32 / SB 32 section that the SB32 is driver compatible too) but after installing and reboot or diagnose it fails to initialize / find AWE.

I found the DOS PnP config util/driver (v 4.something) from Creative website but it won't install telling me that I am running Windows 95 and that it only works in DOS or Win3.1 . This is when I booted, pressed F8 and selected Command Prompt.

Its frustrating because on a Win 98 computer it is proving impossible to install Pure Dos (not command prompt drivers).

Win 98: Compaq Armada 7400 P2 333Mhz, 192MB Ram, ESS AudiDrive 1879 with Wavetable

We really need an FAQ for this question as it pops up all the time 😀

I made a video tutorial about building a W95 / DOS hybrid PC which explains everything. It's almost an hour though, but you will know a lot more about how everything works 😀
