I've got a Vortex2, I got it working on Windows XP with a Asus P4P800S, though only after setting PCI latency to 64. (Sound is great by the way.)
I grabbed this driver (http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=445) and I've tried installing it on two different computers, and it only seems to do fun things like cause BSODs and simply crash. on the aforementioned Pentium 4 build, after it crashed I actually forgot about and left it running for rather a while. It said my card was plugged into a second PCI bus, (weird.) but the driver seemed to install fine. Then I tried playing a sound and the computer locked up! Oh yeah, the way the driver is supposed to be installed confuses me. Apparently when Windows detects the card (As a PCI Multimedia Audio Card or something I guess) you're supposed to point it to the driver folder on the CD. Well, that entry never seems to pick it up so I used the add hard wizard to add it from that folder manually. Trying to install any of the INFs also doesn't seem to do anything useful. Am I doing something wrong? Missing some important file? It's pretty strange not having some installshield kinda deal like literally any other card on the planet, but whatever. I just want it to work. The sound is fantastic, apparently it works great in DOS too, and... it's my only PCI card with a gameport. It would be real nice being able to use my sidewinder on my Deskpro EN. 🤣
So no one wastes their time reading this thread, I am a stupid moron with an ugly face and big butt and my butt smells and I like to kiss my own butt. Also my card is actually an 8820, in other words, an original Vortex.
