I have a HP Vectra computer case where I have installed another motherboard. The computer case itself doesn't have any reset button on the front bezel. I have planned to install Windows 98 on the computer and some old ISA sound card.

But is it necessary to have a reset button on this computer case? I would like to have one, but don't know what kind of a switch should be installed.

If I would drill a hole to this black plastic part between the green led and the power switch, would there be and suitable buttons that could be fastened to this?

This should use a very standard push button used anywuere. Getting this mod to look good, though, would be a bigger challenge. IMHO I'd just leave it like that, then just turn it off and on again whenever Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't respond.

The answer is right in front of you! Let me start by asking: Do you need it? Yes, then yes. No, then no.

I second what alexanrs said. Adding a button is easy, making it look like it had always been there is hard...at least when it comes to adding buttons to the front of a case.

Are you going to be setting up the system in a place where you'll have easy access to the rear of the machine? If so, then it might be the simplest thing to use an existing vent hole or unused case fan screw hole in the rear to mount a micro button like this:

Fair use/fair dealing exception

This would require virtually no modification to the case itself, and since the button is only held on with a nut and washer, easy to undo if ever needed.

I can't remember the last time I had to use the reset button. Personally, I wouldn't bother and just leave the machine as it is.

You can mount buttons on the rear slot covers.

I vote for a big red button surrounded by a caution tape-like sticker and the words DANGER DO NOT PRESS in bold print.

Well... I actually have a more fun suggestion.

First, turn the regulair on/off switch into a reset button.
Then install this as a powerbutton. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Momentary-Blue-Laser- … 16cab5f&vxp=mtr

Is it too much or just a funny gimmick? Personally, I think it will rock.... 😁
