Trying to run 3DMark99 on Asus K7M and with TNT2 Ultra. I have a fresh install of Windows 98SE, a copy I used before when running 3DMark99. Since Win98 installed all drivers except graphics I installed just those and then 3DMark99. 3DMark99 starts just fine, but when I press Benchmark it just closes down, without a single error message.

I've since then installed AMD AGP Miniport driver and VIA 4in1 (because of the VIA southbirdge on this board). I've also tried different graphic drivers and even different graphic cards. There must be something that Windows is missing, but I can't think of what since the last time I ran 3DMark99 on Win98 I cannot recall doing anything special. I have DX6.1a, which came with Windows, installed.

Any ideas?

Got the tip of reinstalling DirectX, anyone have DirectX 6.1a? Can't seem to find it "on Google".

I think that phils computer lab has them.
Anyway....
Did 3D-Mark complain on DX6 not being installed when you run it?
Sometimes it is broken, even though it's a default part of the installation.
You just have to reinstall it.

Try installing a higher version of directx 7 or 8.

Yes, I did install 7a when I couldn't find 6.1a and it worked! 😀

Not the first time after boot, but when I launched the second time, after it had crashed, it said that it needed 6.1 or later. Since reinstalling 7.0a fixed it, the original installation was indeed broken.

Great site, thank you! I know I've been there before, just haven't bookmarked it and Google did not found it when searching for DirextX 6.1. Bookmarked now though! 😀
