I found a strange ISA card - TABS 2000 - and I'm wondering what this might be:

The interesting feature about this device is an external battery (4 AA batteries) back in the rear section of the card.

It's for sale on eBay where it's stated in the description that it's a "combined ISA video/serial card" but I have my doubts. The card does seem to feature D-sub connectors used for VGA/Serial but also a pot and some sort of audiojack socket.

There is no standard VGA connector on it. The connectors are 9 pin, not 15.

Serial card and RTC, perhaps? There's also some kind of piezo speaker on it.

I think neither there is any audio jack connector - to me it seems like some kind of external power connector (it's probably related to on-board battery pack).

Wouldn't this kind of battery pack be an overkill for the typical needs of RTC clock?

The company is still around: http://www.mer-group.com/ They do telecom/security... My guess would be some kind of security system, hence the independent power supply?

This board is probably some kind of industrial controller with a type of serial interface. Appears to have been built in the mid 1990s.

This is completely unfounded, but the "TABS" word makes me feel it would be amusing if it were used in the production of cigarettes.

Edit; Or it could be something suggested on the site linked above.

This means that I probably don't need this controller as badly as I thought I do 😉
