Hello to all,

Recently I've build 486 Computer. Specs are follloowjng:
LS-486E Mobo with AMD DX4-100 & 32 Mb of RAM
4Gb CF Card as HDD via adapter card
PCI S3 Tro 64V+ 2 meg Video Card
Gravis Ultrasound MAX 2.1
and Sony CDU-33A CDROM

My intention was to use my Gravis on-board Sony CDROM controller with the CDU-33A as I don't have Sony's proprietary controller card. I'm also missing original ribbon cable, however I figured out that butchering non twisted end of floppy cable will do as it has 34 pins like the original Sony one. I have set jumpers to default values as per pdf user guide for the Ultrasound MAX (enman.pdf; page 64). (220, 340hex, DMA3 & IRQ3), and removed the Panasonic enable jumper as suggested.

Drivers installed are sony173a.zip. I've tried multiple settings, nothing have worked for me. Drive is on (lights are on), however it fails to communicate. Does anyone has any experience with this drive and or above combination? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a few systems using the Sony CDU-33A. I usually use the controller card and my preferred port setting there is 340h and PIO mode.
It works without hassle. The card is sensitive to overclocked ISA bus.
Usually with a CD-ROM controller on the sound card it works the same.

I use SLCD.SYS driver 1.74d with parameters given explicitly in the device line in config.sys (see the drivers readme for docs)

Where do you get 1.74D drivers? I try to find them without luck...

My second question would be if anybody knows how to set Gravis USM 2.1 to PIO mode based on these jumpers settings:

Thanks for help.

Here: ftp://retronn.de/driver/Sony_CDU33A/
On the regular controller card for PIO operation the jumper at IRQ and DMA has to be removed.
It could be the same when used with the sound card.
