Hi all. I have two LGA 775 Pentium 4 processors: the P4 640 and the P4 550.

The 550 is at 3.4 GHz vs 3.2 GHz for the 640. But the 640 has 2M of L2 cache vs 1M for the 550.

I'm building a 2004-5 era XP gaming machine and I am interested to know which chip is likely to perform better on average in games?

FYI I plan to use the cpu with an ECS 661fx-M7 motherboard, 2GB of DDR400 and an NVIDIA 6800 GT.

Definitely go with the extra cache. I've spent a good deal of time with prescott chips and overclocking em past 4 ghz and the cache definitely makes a huge difference in games and general daily usage and just everything in general with this platform.
