Fair use/fair dealing exception

This drive is actually a COMPAQ OEM, but it's a SONY. It worked fine on oakcdrom and the generic Acer driver. SONY is called ATAPI_CD.SYS. The driver version for the CDU701 is 2.27a (1994). I also tried its 1996 successor 2.27b.

The error comes up when the driver tries to load.

I guess it is an IDE cd-rom, neither an proprietary original SONY interface.. Because OAKCDROM.SYS is an IDE device driver.. I think your are mixing things up here.

Nothing's wrong with functionality under oakcdrom, it just consumes an insane amount of memory. Acer is ok, but I had a few issues in the past with protected mode sierra games.

The atapi_cd driver is the official download for the cdu701, apparently. Yes, it is IDE, not a proprietary interface. Are you telling me I have the wrong driver?

I already stated that I used oakcdrom.sys, and it worked.

What exactly is your question then? If oakcdrom.sys worked, then use just that.

I thought the question was clear. I want the SONY drive to work with the SONY driver that it's, apparently, supposed to work with. Again, this system has memory constraints so I'd like to see how much is consumed by the original driver.
