Getting some boxed stuffs!

Voodoo 3 3500 AGP with accessories... and even the free Unreal Tournament mail-in offer. That little TV box is a lot larger than I expected. Seems to be very awkward.

Canopus Spectra 5400 Premium Edition (Nvidia Riva TNT2 Ultra).

Wooo, careful of that Spectra, lots of lightning in it apparently.

Sad day for me today. The particular style AT case I had been looking for was posted up on eBay a couple weeks ago and I bought it even though it was (IMHO) overpriced. It arrived today:

There might be more bits of broken plastic I missed. Contacted seller to see what they have to say. I got two emails after the purchase from them stressing to not leave bad feedback or open an eBay case and to contact them first, so I do hope they are reasonable here.

Ouch Gered, that's a bit pooched. I have seen plenty of those in Ontario though so don't give up. Just keep plugging at kijiji, craigslist, letgo etc.

you can see how cheap it is that the turbo and reset buttons on the back are glued with silicone.

there are some nice quality 90s pc cases i have seen on this forum that are just lovely. but that one you paid for looks nice but its crap bad quality plastic

i have one like yours, and it is so bad quality that it breaks on the corners easly

Well, the seller responded fairly quickly and was quite apologetic. They had another case of the exact same style, though maybe a tad bit more yellowed. He's willing to send it to me for free due to the damage to this one, and is going to "do everything [they] can to pack it better this time."

Certainly it's not the greatest quality case out there, I cannot deny that, haha. 😀 I have another case that I'm using with my 486 PC right now, so it's not the worst thing in the world that this broke. But I really wanted this style case because it's the same as the one my family had in the early 90's. /shrug

Nice outcome though to get a second one, was sad to see the damage as I too had one of these as my first PC. Funny how a hunk of metal and plastic can make us so sentimental 🤣

I'd like to "share" some pics about my last "encounters" with retro old bargain hardware...

Last year I was digging in local 2nd hand webs and bought this stuff...

Supermicro dual slot1 P6DBU + 2x PIII 700mhz/100fsb + 768mb of ECC ram...

The total cost was 10€, and the mobo is working very well with win98, win2000 and windows XP... And also a voodoo 3 2000.

I'd really like to upgrade the cpus but I can't find 1000mhz Pentium's in slot 1...

That is a nice board! There are 'slotkets' that support SMP, but finding the 100MHz FSB Pentium III 1GHz is going to be hard in both Socket 370 and Slot 1 variants.

Bought a pair of "New Old Stock" Roland MA-8 Monitor Speakers - I've been looking for these for a while and am happy to have found a pair on ebay for a reasonable price.

Come to think of it. I have seen two versions of that case. I don't know it they are an early and late version by the same factory, or an original and copy. Anway, the first one is heavy, the plastic is thick and the grille area is actually slotted, plastic almost overlaps so it's not that obvious. The second one is lighter the plastic flimsier and has a simplified grille moulding that's not a grille, not many of those came with speed displays in. I have seen 386es in them but they seemed most common for the 486 era.

I wish a producer would make a limited run of quality AT/ATX hybrid cases.

I think I know what you mean. My first PC with that styling was a 386SX, but it was a fairly light case, and came across as a very bargain basement clone machine. The power switch was a large beige push button, whereas the majority of this style have flip switches. The case I have now (like Gered's) feels sturdier, including the face plate. There must have been a few variations on a theme as well, as I've seen one recently with the grille set off to the right under the power switch.

The only difference between the two is that ATX boards have a bigger cut-out and AT cases use a different switch. An AT board will fit an ATX case, but would benefit from an AT backplate.

That would be great. I guess they would be really expensive. You would need to sell thousands (?) to get to a reasonable price I think.

Edit: As long as I have storage I will buy all AT cases in reasonable shape and with a reasonable price. I have too many now...

I have some across 2 specialist case suppliers who do all shapes of ATX including lunchbox portable styles, and I believe they still do some AT models. Expect to pay $150 or more a piece though.
