There's ongoing issues with my WinChip P180, socket 7 machine. The serial mouse isn't detected in Windows 95.

I bought an indentical motherboard, thinking it was that, but now I've decuded that it's the pinout and I must have a mismatching header port.

On page 26, it shows the pinout of the serial port.

Is this an uncommon pinout?

Is there an ebay link that links to the correct port header for sale that would work?

Any other help or advice in getting the mouse to work?

I've bought an additional PCI Serial Port card which is recognised, but the mouse isn't. I've got 3 serial mice to try. They all work on other machines, it's just this one that doesn't work.

Page 18 shows You pin 1 of the connector, from there you will have to figure out if the pinout is

678910
12345
or
246810
13579

then You will have to wire it up accordingly at the other end.

So to update this thread, I solved it.

This is an Intel board and expects a 'DTK' cable, so I managed to source and order one.

This is why all the other serial ribbon cables I had didn't work.

I made sure the BIOS had COM 1 and COM 2 enabled and reinstalled the Serial Mouse driver in Windows 95 using the Add New Hardware.

After a reboot and using Logitech Serial Mouse, it all worked.

I haven't got it working with the Serial - PS/2 adapter, but I'm happy for now.

Same exact problem.
You can fix it yourself with minimal effort.
