I have a second 386 motherboard but this one is a Shuttle HOT 307 and it has the same 4 pin external battery option and I have removed the rechargable battery. The only info I could find is here:

and I have taken some pictures here:

my first mobo had a H82C206 chip that member Lazibayer helped with info about it and I have another chip that is similar but it is F82C206 from Opti, would this be the same to use 4.5 volts for the RTC as I have successfully got a 3x AAA battery to work with my AMI M321 motherboard.

When I put the 3 AAA batteries in a battery holder my multimeter shows 4.8 volts and not 4.5 volts would the extra 0.3 volts be bad for the RTC?

The two chips are equivalent, just different manufacturers. Up to 6 volts should be ok, no worries at 4.8.

Edit: seen the pictures, it's PLCC vs QFP. Still the same chip.

Thanks again Quicknick, I ended up pulling apart one of thoes small flash lights that hold 3 AAA batteries and some electrical tape with a cable from a pc speaker to make a battery it should last about 4 years
