Modern Keyboard on 286PC

Postby Retrisimo » 2018-5-19 @ 16:56

Hi ppl, i purchased a modern mechanical keyboard for my old comps, mainly for a 286 but it doesnt work. Not even on my Pentium1 machine.
I am using the correct purple converter. So i was searching on the internet for some emulation box to make it work but been unsuccessful. Does somethink like that exist? I have plenty old keyboards but on the cheap side :(

this is the keyboard https://www.nay.sk/genesis-thor-300-c-s ... klavesnica

Thanks

Those purple dongles only work if the keyboard is designed for them.

I use one of these for my retro machine, it works great: https://www.tripplite.com/ps-2-to-usb-c ... r~0DT60002

You'd better get a real PS/2 keyboard, those are still pretty cheap. The other option would be a real USB to PS/2 converter with a microcontroller. What you have is just a passive adapter that assumes the keyboard being able to work either as USB or as PS/2.

Your mechanical keyboard was not designed with PS/2 support in mind, so you out of luck. Look for a mechanical keyboard without backlit and PS/2 support in specs.
