Nice Thunderboard! I stumbled upon one last year myself. Very neat looking little card... though mine has the white volume wheel... and I certainly didn't get a retail box. 😁

One of my retro purchases came today. I got 32 DIP-20 1mbit 70ns DRAM chips for a paltry $13.99 shipped. Six of them will be going onto my "refurbished" GUS Classic soon. 😀

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

I ran ran across some info about the Thunderboard as I was looking up stuff about other sound cards. Supposedly it was released to go along with the original PAS (not PAS16) in order to add SB support.

The original PAS is one of the cards I still want to get and hope to find one in a lot of cards or something as I refuse to pay the crazy price that they would fetch.

I got a sealed 800 a few months ago for very cheap (about USD 15), the seller had a bunch of them, so I guess they're not really rare. I think the 1GHz are uncommon though.

Could you share a link to the source via PM if possible? Not sure if it's worth the purchase for the marginal boost over a 700MHz, though. It's probably better to move onto a Socket 370 board instead, as the 100MHz FSB will start to become a bottleneck..

Bought a complete 486DX2-66 for 25€

AIZeHSrl.jpg

I did a quick test since there is no HD in it. Quite dusty inside. There was some crud on the barrel battery so this week I am going to remove the board and give it a visual check and probably have the battery replaced.
The board itself is a Soyo one with 3 VLB slots + ISA slots. There is an ET4000/W32p VLB card in it, an ISA I/O controller (going to replace it with a VLB one since I NEVER had a VLB system) and some Ethernet card.
The CD Drive seems dodgy so this one will probably be replaced too.

My retro collection: too much...

Whats the upper card? Ethernet? There are 3 of them...anybody recognizes the logo with the dots?

Looks like Thomas Conrad Networking Corporation, taken over by Compaq years ago. Could be some of there 100 MBit ARCnet variants.
Drop PM if you need a matching hub for these.

seems to be quite cool and unique.

That is a beast of a videocard, I absolutely love it. Huge PC parts always look like they REALLY mean business.

I picked up a complete AMD K6-2 266MHz system yesterday for $68. It comes with a 1,7GB hard drive, 32MB RAM and a S3 Trio64 graphics card. When the PC arrivers I will probably put a modern Seasonic power supply in there with an ATX/AT-adapter , because I don't want to risk any retro components dying. I will also replace the harddrive with a 8GB CF-Card in a CF2IDE-adapter. And I will add a 3dfx Voodoo I and a Sound Blaster Vibra 16S in there. I really love this case; it really looks like the case of the PC I had as a kid, which my parents made me throw away. Nostalgia . . .. 😊

Satellite 220CS: Pentium 133, SVGA DSTN, Sound Blaster Pro, 64MB RAM
Contura 420CX: 486DX4 75, VGA TFT, Roland Serial MIDI, 16MB RAM

Very clean and white case, I really like it, it looks to be very well preserved. Enjoy the system. You may look into upgrading it with a K6-2/400 and more RAM in addition to the Voodoo 1 card. It would also probably not be a bad idea to go with a Voodoo 2 card with this system instead.

I like the temporary cooler, not sure that rubber bands will provide enough tension but it should cool okay 😀 I did similar with a SECC2 Pentium 3 that I wanted to change the heatsink on, it's all held together by zip ties right now - haven't tested it yet though.

It's a shame that Pentium II 333 is sealed - that date code should mean it predates when Intel started multiplier locking them fully.

Yeah, was a quick & nasty mod to check it for POST / BIOS - I'll be making a new backplate / bigger active cooler for it later. I know some are, but I'm not really that fussed with sealed kit - it's a (costlier) novelty at the time of purchase but I rarely leave stuff intact, so this'll get opened once I have some boards to test on (still negotiating this deal). I seem to remember having one of these early ones a good few years ago that ranged between maybe 2 - 5 x 100 roughly.

Thanks, I might actually take those upgrades in consideration, though I'm not sure whether they're necessary for a mid-late 90's PC; I already have a Pentium 4 for the late 90s and early 2000s. 😀

I believe I saw someone mention this a few days/weeks back on Vogons. I put in a low ball offer of $105 last night, and this morning the seller accepted. I have the Dash OPS-1000 coming soon.. 😎 33MHz 486, 4MB RAM, integrated CRT display, and a lot of landline phone routing controller boards inside. Time for a Knight Rider 486 build. 🤣 It comes with a neat little mechanical keyboard too, which will probably recieve a black or dark gray paint job, and new black/gray/red keycaps.

What? I've never seen something like that before a day in my life. Integrated CRT in a computer tower is very interesting. It looks like the computer was used for telecommunications. Beautiful system.

I don't know why you would want an built in CRT display usability-wise, but I think it looks really cool! 😀
I wouldn't customize the keyboard though, I myself always like to keep these arts of history in their original glory; if anything at all, retro-bright it. 😉
