hi everyone

i have an asus motherboard, it's a P5VD1-X, which only supports netburst 775 processors. i was wondering if it was feasible to add support for a mere Pentium E2140.
i know that this processor uses the core architecture, and has lower voltage and many other differences, but is much faster than the P4-631 that i'm using right now in this machine.
another reason for this is due to me being unable to get a better supported processor, like a Pentium D 960.

are there any chances? thanks.

Pretty sure it depends on the voltage regulation circuitry on the motherboard.

Looks like you asked the same question in October of 2017. The consensus was that it wouldn't work because of voltage regulation circuitry.

No problem.

I would suggest finding a newer motherboard and then upgrade.

It's not so easy to provide himself the conroe support. I leave here a link to google-translated russian-speaking resource

P.S. After modifying hardware part you can try, for example, a bios of a model that supports conroe https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P5VDCX/
But it can be not suitable, of course.

it seems that the biggest problem should be support for the new voltage bits and the way the processor starts may be a problem, anyway I've seen biostar motherboards with the same chipset as mine and with support for c2q, the same with an i865 mobo that i had, wich suggests that the chipset shouldn't be a problem

i will be investigating a bit more, i think i should find a similar motherboard but one that supports an e2140, then i will look at the code.

Yes, something like a bios for P5VDC-MX V2.0 https://www.asus.com/supportonly/P5VDC-MX%20V … 0/HelpDesk_CPU/
I was wrong about P5VDC-X - it doesn't support Conroe (only 65nm Pentium4 and PentiumD)
