Greetings everyone,
I've recently gotten my Windows 98SE PC up and running again after repairing my Voodoo 5 5500 and wanted to play an old classic, Frogger 1997, A.K.A. Frogger He's Back.
But for some reason, the game hangs when starting up and then promptly restarts the computer after about 5 seconds.
At first it gave Fatal Exception messages, see images below, but then after some tweaking on the settings, it now just restarts automatically.
I've tried various settings and nothing seems to work.
My guess is that there is a driver compatibility issue as the disc contains 3DFX drivers of some sort but it isn't compatible with my Voodoo 5 5500 apparently.
I tested various games such as Fallout 2, Midnight Rescue and Blood and they all work perfectly fine.
Anyone have any recommendations for this issue?
Thanks you.
EDIT 1: I decided to test the game on Windows 7 using Windows 98 compatibility mode and it runs but has sound issue which is where the sound shuts off at certain points. This is all I need to know that this is a Software/Driver issue now.
EDIT 2: I discovered the true issue. It was the Direct3D from DirectX causing all the issues thanks to running test with Diablo 2. So EDIT 1 only scratched the surface of the issue.
See Nocturne 1999 Black Screen post for more info on the progress of fixing this DirectX issue.
EDIT 3: So apparently SLI was selected from the V5 which caused issues. Still no progress on fixing resets. DirectX 9.0c seamed to have alleviate some performance issue but Single chip mode still has problems.
EDIT4: Problem solved. It was not the game, but the Voodoo 5 5500 I had. I have it repaired now and the game works flawlessly.
