I'm repurposing a Slot-1 P3 700MHX / GeForce 2 GTS system build for 1998-2000 gaming as a 1999-2001 PC to reduce overlap between my systems. Here are my options:

Option 1:
Gigabyte GA-6OXT (i815 Socket370)
P3-1200 Tualatin (Non-S) or Celeron 1000A@1333MHz
GeForce 3 Ti200

Option 2:
Gigabyte GA-7ZX (KT133 Socket A)
Athlon 1000B (100MHz) or Duron 1300
Radeon 9100PRO (No 8500 at the moment, but it is a 8500LE equivalent)

I'm currently leaning towards Option 1 (as already displayed in my sig..) but part of me wants to go 'Fuck Intel, Fuck nVidia' and go full AMD/Radeon like I actually did in 2001. Of course, back in 2001, backwards compatibility was not much of a concern - I just wanted to play the newest stuff and the Athlon and Radeon 8500 were incredible value and performance. These days, would it still be wise to go for a Thunderbird Athlon and a Radeon 8500 over a Tualatin and GeForce 3? How relevant are things like SSE2 and Table Fog for 1999-2001 games?

GeForce can utilize "3DNow!" better.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
