Guys, you know i won't post here unless i am really really really stumpted!

I've got this mini Prescott 533 AGP motherboard up and running with a fresh win 98SE OS install but with no on board sound working.
As yet i am unable to find a pic close this mini 533 motherboard to ID the actual make, to DL the right win 98SE drivers for it.

Can you guys help?

I only ask because you've all helped me in the past with positive results.

Ive built this win 98 SE for my mates five year old daughter to play "putt putt goes to the moon" on with, ok...i admit, im probably going to play this stupid video game again if i ever get it running. Even though I already completed this game twenty years ago when my own son was five years old on a 3DO console and it's all true..i actually do want to play it again, if only to teach the next generation of noobletts how to clean the PS2 mouse's ball from lint etc.. you very well know, they will never know how unless we teach them this was the way it was...cleaning the mouse's ball i mean...

Thank you in advance,

No idea on the board brand - could be any number of Asian / Far East makes, but the on-board audio is supplied by a Realtek chip

PRESCOTT_533_AUDIO.jpg

You can read the model number off this chip, and assuming it's not too recent a one you can get the Realtek AC97 audio drivers for Win 98SE here

From the looks of the rounded edges and the clour, my guess would be that this is a Gigabyte board. Try and look for a sticker or marking in the likes of GA-8Ixx. I think this is an Intel 845G chipset.

Thanks guys! ..just an update with the final paint job.

A big MB ID clue would have been in the bios and boot screen but i was too busy going off the large, easily readable "Prescott 533" stamp on the actual board! I spent hours looking at google motherboard images till my eyes went numb and i eventually needed beauty sleep, which never seems to work on me.

The first Realtek AC97 audio driver 3.41 i put on a CD with cpuz didn't work but, cpuz ID'd the motherboard as an Intel i845G-W83627 rev.B1.
From there the drivers that worked were,

* Motherboard update - infinst_enu.exe (on vogons)
* Realtek AC97 audio driver 3.62 (on vogons)
* Onboard VGA driver - win9xe114.exe

I rarely get this lucky with a win 98 build, had it all up and running sweet in a record time for me.

Thank you for your help once again!

Why thank you kind sir! Im getting better at this painting thing. Like every other PC case, i found this one many years ago abandoned and completely stripped by the side of the road ready for weekly garbage collection. I sleep easy knowing i saved it from being crushed and ending up in landfill.

What prep work did you do on the case before spraying the krylon fusion paint? I'm looking into doing this for the 1st time with the
Cooler Master HAF XB EVO case.

Oh, i forgot to take a pic of that pink spray can which was supplied by the dad of the daughter this PC build is for. It's a "Rust-oleum 2X ULTRA COVER" that bonds to plastic. Essentially the Rust-oleum version of the Krylon fusion brand. Just be sure to give each colour a good days dry time to avoid any bleed through.
The case wasn't that dirty but I wiped down the whole thing with diggers methylated spirit before putting a good coat of pink on it. Prepsol is something else you could use to clean the case with. Not sure exactly what brands you guys have over there.
Goes without saying to obviously wear surgical gloves and try not to breathe the fumes. It says on the can it's got lead in there.
Used to tell customers to leave the spray pack upside down in the sun for a little bit then shake it up really really well before using, because you never know how long it's been sitting on the shop shelf for, so all the pigment is settled well and truly on the bottom. If it's a scorcher of a day don't leave it in the sun for long but you need to hear the glass marble inside the can actual clattering around for a couple of minutes at least.

Good luck sir and please do post links to final your work here!

This one is a HP beats audio Win 7 install with the new krylon camo range(well, ..new for Australia). I know it's very hard to see, but there is a PC sitting there somewhere!! 😀
