Some people might be confused by the desktop model since the laptop 2100 is most popular (thanks Compaq for great naming). Anyways, the CD drive on my 2100 does not work. It's present in 95 and DOS, but cannot read any discs in either of those. The CD controller in device manager shows up with a yellow triangle (so probably not detected or connected). However, the CD drive does show up in BIOS under Primary Slave (after I autodetected it? I'm confused as to how it wasn't there to begin with). I opened up the machine to look at the drive, and this thing confuses me completely.
I attached the picture below. The right IDE connector comes OUT of the CD drive and is the primary, while the one on the left also comes out from the CD drive but connects to the hard drive (which works). The CD drive only seems directly connected by one molex connection labeled CD_IN.
It'd be amazing if somebody had experience with CD drives like this or knows IDE well enough to figure out what's going on. Thanks in advance.
