Hello! Greetings from Argentina...
I've had this Compaq PC for a long time, and I used this PC for seeding torrents. It was running 24/7 until the mainboard eventually died.
It was gathering dust for a few years until I decided to revive it to use it for some Windows 98 games from the late 90s.
Luckily last week I found an Intel SE440BX-2 board for 10USD here in Buenos Aires.
While I was waiting for the motherboard to arrive, I also bought a Gigabyte GA-6R7+ Socket 370 to Slot 1 Adapter. The idea was to get a 900 or 1000MHz Coppermine to max out the platform.
But when the mainboard eventually arrived, I realised that it was an older revision, so it doesn't support Cumines š
Current specs are:
Pentium III 600MHz Katmai
Intel SE440BX-2
512MB (2x256MB) Kingston KTC6611 PC100
Matrox Millennium G550
Promise Ultra100 IDE Controller
Western Digital WD1200SB (120GB/7200rpm/8MB/ATA100)
HP 300w Power Supply
I already got the fastest processor that this mainboard supports, so nothing else can be done in this regard...
I want it to run DX7 Win98 games smooth... so ideally I want to get a GeForce2 GTS/Ti/Ultra, but these are really hard to find at a fair price... so a GeForce4 MX460 might be a good replacement?
I'm also getting a Sound Blaster Live! or an Audigy maybe...
What about storage? Is a Compact Flash with an IDE Adaptor really much faster than a regular hard drive?
Thanks!
