Maybe try this from the HP ftp site - DIAGNOSTICS diskette(s) contain SETUP Version 8.00 DP256, INSPECT Version 8.00 DP256 and TEST Version 8.00 DP256 for Discontinued Products with at least 256k memory.

This is exactly what OP needs, had to track this down myself not too long ago.
Note, it *needs* to be written to a 720k floppy (one hole). 1.44M (two holes) often doesn't work properly.
I was lucky that I kept the disk when I had LTE 386s/20 (bought new in 1993! Was for college and worth having it for a grand purchase.) Works great, found out the Kingston KTC-1000E 1MB 32 bit expansion card itself is defective. Even that booted with diagnostic disc and detected correct size (eg 4MB + 1MB for 5MB).
386/25e displays this:
"FA0000 00 203 memory address error"
Still, I get address memory error of FA0000 00 203 every time card is installed. Even extra 4MB module with the card will count to 9MB and seen correctly in diagnostic setting but still fails at boot up. Always gets parity error when i try to boot DOS every time when card is installed. Remove it and rerun the setup fixes this, but I wanted at least 8MB for the 386DX 25.
Once I receive the 72pin memory modules lot from ebay, I'll search through them and find a 4MB parity SIMM in that stash and hard wire it in and cut out the samsung 1MB parity installed on this KTC-1000E basically turn it into KTC-4000E version hopefully that would fix that.
Back in the day (1991 ish), I saved up and purchased a 386DX 25 with no cache 4MB, had 2 sockets for either 287 or 387 clone. I didn't realize that was a garbage kit, mother board has the crummy C&T chipset, is slow and cannot be tuned or it would lock up instantly. Also hard drive capacity was 80MB ST1102A voice coil and still filled it full with games.
But it was good computer to play games on.
Compaq was my wish to have back then and drooled over them in magazines, now I have 3 compaqs to play with. Yay! 😀

Do anyone know if the HP ftp site has been backed up/archived? Its just a matter of time before HP removes everything from Compaq.

You have the 4 MB modules? Colour me jealous, I've been looking for them for years. I have a 4MB backplane with 2 1 MB modules, but I've never even seen a 4MB module on anything other than a data sheet.

Few months ago I took out the hdd to dump it to a file. While it was in my *nix machine, I did a surface scan. Zero errors. Zero problems. As good as the day it was made. They don't make em like they used to.

Well, do you happen still have the datasheet for 4MB module? I can try to recreate a 4MB module. But I preferred to recreate a 4MB expansion card instead of 1MB cards.

Nah not for the module, just the computers. Various manuals and data sheets for different configs. I'll attach them anyway in case they're any use:

Thank you, I noticed that KTC-4000S is either 1MB or 4MB and no jumpers.
The unfilled solder pads are for 4 x 4MB x 1 bit parity chips. The 256K x 4bit of 8 chips in middle can be removed and install 8 4MB x 4 bit ICs. You can use a 12 chip parity 4MB SIMM 70 or 80ns to harvest from.

1 and 4 MB memory boards for the 386e and 386s were made by Compaq and Kingston, while the modules were made by other vendors too.
I own even modules equipped with SIP modules instead of DIP.
I still have to dig for my spares.
I own a Deskpro 386s I'm looking for updated disks that support user definable drive configuration because I can't seem to figure out how to user define a drive here...
tried type 47, but that didn't work.
