I bought some cache memory to replace the fake ones in my PC Chips motherboard (yes the traces go to the chipset) but on looking up jumper setting today I discovered I also need tag ram. Probably obvious to some but news to me.

Anyway...

The manual says I need 64k x 8 for the tag ram. The cache chips themselves are 128k x 8 (1024 total, the max the board supports) and I was wondering if I could just use one of those for the tag ram instead of getting another 64k x 8 chip?

Yep, larger capacity than required will work just fine for tag.
