VOGONS

Hello,

I have issues with these cards on a 440Fx chipset.

At some point - usually at login in screen, with NT 4.0, W2k and XP sp2 (the os i tried it with), they freeze the system.
It hangs as resolution goes more than 8 bit.

First I thought a ram chip was gone, but two cards with one I used yesterday + voodoo to play, doesn't work.
ISA vard works and there are no issues at all.

Does anyone have any idea of what could be going on? Drivers are the generic that come with the OS (for 1024*768 16 bit they are enough?).

I still have to test them both on another rig to be sure they aren't dead for some strange reason.

S3 Virge works without issues in another system.
Testing Trio64 tomorrow, but porbably won't have issues either.

Could it be that mixing EDO and Fast ram have been a problem?

I tried both a 1MB S3 Trio64V+ on W2K and a 2MB S3 Trio64V+ on WXP and from the images you can see both are fine

On WXP you should also see it's using the stock driver

Is the motherboard PCI slot OK? I would be inclined to try a network card in it.

I'll try with a network card.
If it's anything PCI related, what would it be?
Is there a difference with PCI @30 or 33mhz from a card point of view? Problems should start if value is > 33 mhz?

Both cards work perfectly.
Tested and benchmarked.

I think it freezes because of a wrong settings combination: like 1600*1200 @ 32bit, with 2mb of vram.
Is there a way to modify the setting before entering windows, if I manually alter it in the register?
