I haven’t been picking up much lately, partly due to lack of interest but our shite exchange rate is also a deterrent. I picked up the following pretty cheaply but paid well over 100 clams to consolidate and ship it all, which takes the fun right out of it.

These are all NOS – I was particularly happy with the Flightstick. I was hoping that the OPLSAx card was a better implementation than I’ve seen to this point – i.e. that it would be a full height card with nicer drivers - but alas it’s half height and the driver disk is missing altogether. The AWE64 is a nice card for the 25 bucks I paid and I have a simmconn here for it. I had a ‘gold’ once but didn’t like the posh rca connectors, which are just an affectation IMHO

The British pound is fine really from where I stand (I'm going on vacation to London but taking USD with me 😀)

I/O, I/O,
It's off to disk I go,
With a bit and a byte
And a read and a write,

Incredible!!!! I can't believe they still exist in boxed condition. Best joystick in the history of gaming, IMHO. I destroyed my regular Flightstick playing F1GP and X-Wing.

Check out my blog and YouTube channel for thoughts, articles, system profiles, and tips.

That's an interesting combo--I mean who, really played "Heretic" with a joystick? (One of my favorite games, by the way!)

Those are good choices for destroying a joystick 😀

I killed one steering wheel playing NFS IV, and one playing CMR 3. This is why I don't buy £30 wheels any more, they just don't last!

Good question, but in Hexen that's also one of the control options. This was before people realized that keyboard + mouse was the perfect combination for playing this kind of games. I played a lot of Hexen back then and I'm pretty sure I only used a keyboard. 🤣

Modern dual-analog gamepads can actually be pretty good for Doom engine games, mainly because they were designed around the keyboard and precise aiming is not necessary.

Unfortunately, the DOS versions have rather basic Joystick support; they don't even support analog movement.

I'd say so! Those aren't too common anymore, especially the 1320A. Lovely card with those Phillips SAA1099 "CMS-301" chips. Looks like 40th week of 1989 for that card. Congrats!

new panels have like 1ms refresh rates, old panels had very high refresh rates. TN faster than IPS.. IPS has better colour gamut.

motion blur was that old panels had a slow grey-to-grey gradiation response time (pixel turning off). tn panels have a much fater g-t-g response time.

Some stats I found show you a huge difference in response times on some panels;

 Model FlexScan EV2333W FlexScan SX2462W FlexScan EV2303W
Panel Type VA IPS TN
Panel Size 23" 24.1" 23"
Native Resolution 1920 × 1080 1920 × 1200 1920 × 1080
Maximum Brightness 300 cd/m2 270 cd/m2 250 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio 3000:1 850:1 1000:1
Response Time
(black-white-black) 25 ms 13 ms 5 ms
Response Time
(gray-to-gray) 7 ms 5 ms No
Overdrive Circuit Yes Yes No

I meant to reply to these posts about monitor motion blur earlier, but I forgot. I don't want to derail the thread further, so I've made another thread to address the topic!

The problem with modern displays = Motion Blur

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
