That may be it. Judging by the dates of the chips (28th week of 95) this card was one of the last Non-PnP AWE32's, so it may not like earlier drivers. It could also explain why I'm getting so many stuck notes in MT32 emulation mode if it's loading older sound banks. Now I just need to find a copy of Mixerset.

OK, so I found a copy of Mixerset, from an old Vogon's thread located here:
Different Versions of Mixerset and Aweutil...

Judging by the context if the thread, I think the files came from a Goldfinch upgrade card. AWEUTIL 1.36 works fine, but MIXERSET v2.18 refuses to load, stating:
MIX0002: Incorrect AUXDRV.DRV version.

I don't think I even have an AUXDRV.DRV file.

What could be is that the reverse has happened, now I have a Mixerset that's too new. Does anyone have an older version of Mixerset?

Also, does anyone know where I can find updated copies of the Sound Banks? (ie: SYNTHMT.SBK, SYNTHGM.SBK, SYNTHGS.SBK)

I wish I'd read your last post before. I just replaced my mixerset 2.12 with 2.18. I'll have a look at my AWE64 Gold CD later to see if I can get 2.12. I also have 2.01. I may upload them both later.

BTW, mixerset 2.18 works with my AWE64 Gold drivers. My auxdrv.drv is dated 24 May 1996

Looking at this site, it seems like the CT3910 is a "Sound Blaster AWE32 Value IDE".

And this lists the jumper configuration.

The CT3910 and CT3919 are almost always paired together - meaning they are from the same batch of cards, sharing all the main components -. It's also interesting to note that the CT3910 has ASP, while the CT3919 doesn't.

Now the only thing remaining is to find the appropriate versions of files to be used with this card.

Last night, I just checked again the initializing routine without loading the low level drivers with my CT2760. And yes, it still works without the drivers in the config.sys. I was of the impression that older cards are more prone to rely on low level drivers, than newer cards, and if the older card can work, I think the newer cards ought to work even more without relying on the low level drivers. I guess the only thing remaining now is to find the appropriate versions of MIXERSET. Try the AdamP's file above.

Thanks to AdamP, those Mixerset files worked! And thanks for including the extra sound bank files too. 😀

I did have a a AUXDRV.DRV dated to (I think) 1994, that would have gone with SB16SET. Updating that file in C:\SB16\DRV\ to the one provided worked using Mixerset 2.12.

As for the Sound banks, the MT32 emulation is much better with fewer stuck and missed notes, though not perfect. However, gotta remember that this is essentially emulating a classic high end sound card on the AWE32, it's like McDonalds making a juicy 8oz New York Striploin steak, the fact it can do it at all is impressive. Some games don't work right using General MIDI (Xwing floppy for example), but I'm not too worried about that as I have an XR385 coming soon (which is my next project, finding a companion card I can use for the waveblaster header)

Still, it'd be nice at some point to find copies of the specific drivers discs intended for this card so it can just be installed and that's it.

The ASP, is that the chip that goes in the empty socket? Or is it another component? How can I tell? There's an empty socket onboard but it's unpopulated. A picture of the card can be found in the top right corner of the photo at this link: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7063/6900351837 … deb11dffc_b.jpg

The CT3919 does have the CSP chip, but it's disabled (at least that's what my source says).
