Hmm, so that's not a 'standard' thing but would be driver & card dependent then? I'll keep looking into it...

Today someone gave me a Sapphire Radeon HD4850 in 'it probably works but I don't remember' condition. It's this card:

PCI-e so I can't test it right away. VGA+HDMI+DVI. Naturally I want to know if it's going to work for my setup before I go out and get a motherboard that will support it. Other versions of this card had an S-Video/component connector where my HDMI port is. So I'm assuming the chipset can handle it. In fact it even has a spot for a PAL/NTSC jumper on the PCB which presumably is fitted on the video-out model. Maybe a simple cable will work...

Is something like this HDMI to component converter any good? It's listed for $40 on a local site. Generic, unbranded box screams 'cheap' to me in the worst way, but on the plus side it's cheap! Any ideas?
