Sorry for creating multiple threads due to its so many posts (ppl asked me to do so). I spent a whole year to search useful information for building my DOS & Glide gaming rig so I couldn't do anything on my old & new thread other than PM. Recently, I decided to mix with modern & retro stuffs for building my rig in order to save some $$ and time (inspired by Phil's scheme). However, I have some challenges with using multiple sound cards in one rig and I can't figure it out what to do. I'm not sure whether I'm just stick with Sound Blaster AWE 64 Gold ISA & Aureal Vortex 2 PCI (w SC-55mkII) or using three sound cards as I planned (w SC-55mkII). Are 7.1 speakers and headphones necessary for Win 98 SE rig (cuz I have a 7.1 speakers in my house, I'm also have 2 channel speakers too but it became broken one for unknown reason) 😕?

Когда сквозная паутина
Разносит нити ясных дней
И под окном у селянина
Далекий благовест слышней,

Мы не грустим, пугаясь снова
Дыханья близкого зимы,
А голос лета прожитого
Яснее понимаем мы.

This re-treads some of the information in this post - I referenced it when I set about to building a Win98 SE system. My son wanted to play Dungeon Keeper 2 but it kept crashing on my XP system no matter what I tried to do to stabilize it. Here's what I ended up going with. Basically for under $200, I was able to put together a *very* stable and very fast Windows 98 System. One tip when buying on eBay: look for hardware with the original driver CD. It will save alot of hassle.

$50
ASRock Motherboard Model ASRock P4VM8 AGP 8x ATA 133 Prescott800
Came with:
* Intel Pentium P4 HT at 3.0 GHz
* 768 MB Ram

$40
CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

$20
BFG GeForce 6800GT OC 256MB DDR3 AGP 8x/4x

$12
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB 7200RPM PATA133 3.5" Hard Drive (NOS)

$35
Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 Mid Tower

$12
Nondescript P-ATA/IDE optical drive

$10
3.5 floppy drive

$10
Optical PS/2 mouse (had a PS/2 keyboard handy)

Easily worth the money and gives me the chance to dig out my other older games.

Thank you for giving useful info 😊! Now, I'm going to update my plan with better stuffs. I'm totally surprised that your son wanna play old games like me (I haven't play Dungeon Keeper 2 though) since it's hard to find a person who likes to play old games not just modern games like Dota 2 or League of Legends only in these days! How old is he?
