HAH! My QDI motherboard arrived today, it works, my S3 Vision 864 card works, my E-IDE VLB controller works, it autodetects my CF card and the system boots perfectly with the test CPU (486 DX2 66).
Next step, rebuild the system to swap from PCI to VLB and then do some tweaking.
Can't wait to see how this pans out. I've wanted a system with VLB for a very long time 😀
