I have IDE drives in all sizes, 20, 40, 80,120GB for 98, but recalled short stroking drives 20+ years ago to improve access time. Does anyone recall the effective %. I can test of course, just wondering if anyone had some data / metrics handy from a reliable source.

Sorry for double post, but I found a method using HDTune to check where the drive access time drops off, and set partition size accordingly. I've been allocating between 4-10% of the the drive with good results. I cannot remember how we figured it 20 plus years ago, but this will do.
