I was lucky enough to purchase an AOpen 479 board years ago in a lot of parts. I maxed out the CPU, and though this board has limited overclocking options (no CPU voltage adjustments) I was able to overclock the CPU by quite a bit. There is at least one member here who has an adapter on his Asus P4P 800.

I'm running an Asus CT-479 in my Asus P4C800-E Deluxe. It's working quite well, good performance and overclock (I'm using a Zalman cooler), but I don't have any benches to show right now.

Dang, so dothan is p3 based, non netburst right? So 2.6ghz with 2mh l2 and sse2 is actually probably on northwood 3.4ghz level?

One benchmark doesn't tell the full story, but here's the same video card with the same driver, OS, system memory and a P4 overclocked a fair degree:

I dug out my Pentium M benchmarks from the 3dmark2001 thread.

While my AOpen Socket 479 motherboard is nice, when compared to an Asus P4P, it only has AGP 4x, no dual channel memory, and no voltage adjustments for either the memory or the CPU. It's too bad those adapters are so rare.

I wonder what all is going on in the adapter. Anyone able to upload a high res both sides. Maybe we can take a gander at the chips on it.

Looks like the radeon 3800 is doing pretty well with the mobile.

I have the CT479, it works fine - but isn't very practical. Much easier to use Core2 on i865 chipset, runs faster and compatibility is the same.

It is Pentium M 1.4 with Banias core at default clock and also OC to 1.86 GHz.

Is that right? What all processors work in the 479 binias/dothan socket? I know the via chips have 479 but use a different bus right?

I could never get any information on the 479 Pentium III either.

Pentium M 479 is actually 478 pins the socket has 479 holes I think that Tyan board is using Merom based Core2 duo mobile processors which is socket M that is also 478 pins. They're keyed differently so they can't be interchanged.
There is also Socket P that also has 478 pins for faster bus Core2 duo mobiles.

These KONTRON 886LCD-M/Flex Pentium M AGP boards look really cool on Ebay though. I keep saying I'm going to get one when they're in stock, but I never pull the trigger. https://www.ebay.com/itm/283673536242
