Hi all: I'm looking for someone who understands both electronics and computers.
I have an old Frael King pc, with NEC V20 cpu, 8088 compatible: by mistake I inserted an isa card backwards and, wanting to equip it with a storage drive, I opted for SD cards and CF cards (in the sense that I tried both): I do wipedisk, then reboot, then fdisk, create the partition successfully (fat16, tried with freedos and ms-dos 3.30, 3.31 and 6.22), reboot again, format c: successful, then sys c: also successful, then fdisk /mbr, successfully entered c:, I created a file autoexec. bat with PATH=C:\ and PATH=C:\COMMAND.COM, file created correctly, but when I try to give a command the pc freezes, and when I reboot the pc does its BIOS, does the POST, and then when booting from C: the pc freezes. The partition was successfully activated by fdisk, but after the reboot it loses its active status.
The guy who repaired it for me just changed a fuse, and it seemed like the pc was working, but I'd like to find out if there's any damage left in any track or integrated/chip.
When I go into C: (booting from floppy/gotek) and run the autoexec.bat file, it runs correctly, and the sys c: writes a command.com file, also correctly: so the partition works in write mode, but doesn't boot from C:, is this due to a motherboard fault, or incompatibility with memory cards and daughterboards? (I installed an ISA floppy and serial controller from Sergey Malinov and an xt-ide rev. 4 from glittchwrks (both cards are modern, but for retro PCs with 8 bit ISA) and an IDE to CF card adapter).
Unfortunately, I did all these tests after the failure, and I don't know if the PC had booted before.
I hope I have not been too verbose, but I have tried to include all the details, also for easier help.
