I stopped by the computer store since i was in the neighborhood. For fifteen dollars: an Audigy 1, an SB Live (but it's an SB0200) and a Quadro FX500. All three work, but the Live is pretty useless, and I don't have much use for the Quadro. But I'll find a place for the Audigy. I knew there was an SB Live that you had to look out for, but I thought I had an SB0200 that worked fine; I actually have an SB0220. I should have done a search on my phone, but so it goes.

Heh, I keep doing that, dragging stuff home and it wasn't quite what I had hoped, and I think "Why didn't you just turn data on and search you idiot?" and I guess 95% of the time I might just have bought it anyway 'coz it was dirt cheap, even if it wasn't the best model. ... tho I did remember to check the other day with some pocket organisers and they were ones that had fixed firmware, no alternate apps, and sucky connectivity options, so I left them... there's a small handful of "interesting" ones apart from obvious psions, cassiopias, palms, HPs etc.

Bought a pentium MMX overdrive 200 MHz complete in box (sealed) for ca 40$. Was it a good price?

Are you planning on using it?

Nice find. You only paid about 20% of what they go for, but if the board could have taken an MMX anyway, twice as much as you could have got a bare MMX CPU for. But having it boxed pumps it another 50% or so.

Guess if I got it, it would stay boxed, as there are few machines that feel worth using it, and I haven't got one. I'd imagine something like a well specced socket 5 OEM from Compaq or someone .

I have a thing for socket 939 😀

That was pretty good, I know socket 939s X2s had been holding their price as trailing edge "last upgrade" CPU for ppl still running them for modern. This might be the dip before retro value increases.

Always went for $$$ here. This is a bored chap that sold it to see it gone 😀

The Opteron 180 is also a great alternative to the top end 939 cpu and easier and cheaper to obtain, since its the same core itll work in most 939 boards with little issue. I got one recently as the 4800/FX-60 is stupidly expensive.

Well I was planning on using it for my Compaq Prolinea 5120. I was actually looking for one so it's quite wierd I found it some random thrift shop. Had to get it.. But now that I know it's worth much more as a decoration for someone else I'm feeling ambivalent.

How do I even sell something that is sealed in a box if I can't guarantee what's inside..

If for example you had got an unboxed used MMX overdrive, it might have cost you near $200, so at the moment you are $160 ahead.... I don't think that's more than the price difference between "used with original box" and "should be new in the shrinkwrap but I can't guarantee it hasn't been rewrapped" if you were to sell it in future. Nice machine for it, so enjoy it.

Yes yes I like where this is going.

I mean it's unlikely that it's been tampered with tbh but you never know. I mean if I were to sell it and the buyer said it was an empty box and wanted a refund I have no way of proving otherwise anyway.

Only problem is I kind of told my wife about this whole ordeal. Lol.

Searching a Nexgen Nx586 with FPU, PM me if you have one. I have some Athlon MP systems and cookies.

I've always thought that was funny - if you buy a rare computer part in the shrink wrapped box and never open it, it could be a rock in there for all you know.

What's the problem with these different SB Live models? (I really have no clue)

The SB0200 isn't a real SB Live, and should be avoided.

Ah, this is exactly the card I have after checking ^^

FX I'm not even gonne try as they were stupidly high priced. I refuse unless price is stupidly low. That was a money eater I hated.
