some guy is selling two 8bits isa cards. one is a serial + parallel controller. but the second one, seems to be a parallel (printer) + "something ".
that something I think is video. but I´ve been unable to identify what kind.
the picture have bad quality., anything I´ve done to improve it dont give clearer text. so I can not be sure the IC identity, beside its froms Yamaha. I think is V636J or V838J or something like that. the date seems to be 1987.
does anyone recognize it?
the two chips in sockets to its left pretty sure are vram, and the top left is the EPROM.
Im looking for 8bit or 16bit but 8bit friendly ISA VGA cards , and this one may be useful. but I think is CGA or EGA.

The main IC is a Yamaha V6363 and the card is most likely a 8 bit ISA Hercules video adapter.

Got a Diamond FireGL 4000 with wopping 31MB memory. Came out in 1997.
As far as I know, it can only do OpenGL 1.1 on Windows NT4. No DirectX.

It has a connector for VR glasses - where the hell do I get one of these now? 😀

I'll dump the driver CD on archive.org soon - as far as I know it hasn't been dumped yet. Other CD's from Diamond that include some drivers have been dumped, but not the one specific for this model.

Edit: Done, the drivers are here.

Don't own the card, but thanks for dumping it!

Funny, that's exactly why I bought this thing. To test out Quake and see if/how it runs. 😀

I don't have an NT4 machine ready, but I'll do some tests soon.

Looks nice.

I'm not a sound card expert so i'm sorry if my question seems basic :
How do you switch between the integrated wavetable synthesis and an external midi expander ? Do they have different addresses ?

You don't, it only has one UART MIDI so the same instructions go to the onboard synth as to anything on the external connector. Only way to switch is to selectively mute the one or the other.

Oh thanks, yes, that makes sense !

Awesome, got a 802.11n 300Mbit 2.4/5ghz WiFi adapter for XT/286/386/486... for $3 from the thrift.... How??? You ask, well it's more like a WAP of course, connects with an ethernet cable, twisted pair. WNCE3001 from Netgear... I suspect it's no more convenient really than those wall plug wifi extenders/mini-routers that you can always find cheap. You can configure it from the USB port with a modern PC... well it works through a web interface, so possibly win98 machine will do it. I just pulled the dox
https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/W … _UM_04Nov11.pdf
I didn't get the stand with it for my $3 though, boo... I'll manage... hotglue it some popsicle stick legs or something 🤣

Other weird shit I scraped up, my 93rd USB vidcap dongle, may be slight exaggeration, a box with 3.5" drivebay adapter and faceplate which I think matches a corsair case I've got, bunch of random case screws and maybe a card brace with it, Sharp Aquos 13" LCD 4:3 TV (damn they were $1.8k new, 99.6% discount.) for an Amiga, CoCo or I'll try CGA on it maybe.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

There's a local recycler that lists a ton of stuff on eBay. If you're lucky, you can get some really good deals through them, as local pickup is only $5. This time around I picked up a couple of laptops, a server, and some other goodies.

Both laptops were made by NEC, which I don't know much about, but they were cheap, so I put in a bid for each of them. The first is a Versa M/75, which has a 486DX 75MHz CPU and 8MB ram under the hood. I'm looking forward to this one the most, as I've never owned a 486 and it looks like it would be perfect for the COVOX/DSS sound device that I recently purchased.

The only downside is that it has a big crack in it close to the hinge, but I got it for under $30 total, so I can't complain.

The other laptop was an NEC VERSA 2200C, which, according to the manual that I found online, should have a Pentium 75MHz CPU in it. This was listed as "as is" and didn't come with a power adapter, so I don't know if it is in working condition. It might be awhile until I test this one, as it requires a connector end that my universal power supply doesn't have. I don't normally buy "as is" stuff, but I bid $10 on it, so I figured why not? Even if it doesn't work, it came with a PCMCIA card that I can add to my growing collection of ethernet cards without the dongle (-:

I also picked up an old Realistic mixer. Nothing fancy, but I now have a second mixer that I can use when I want to use one of my midi devices. I've read that these were sold by Radio Shack back in the day, which probably explains why I've seen this mixer for sale fairly frequently on used sites.

Lastly, I picked up a Lantronix CoBox-E2-01 Universal Thin Server. I know absolutely nothing about these devices, but I grabbed it as I think it would let me attach my old DOS machines to a LAN. Here's the company's description:

The CoBox Universal Thin Server (UTS) is designed to connect peripherals with a serial interface to an Ethernet or Token Ring network using the TCP/IP protocol family (TCP for transparent stream- and UDP for datagram applications).
Various peripherals can be interfaced, for example:
• terminals
• time/attendance and data collection devices
• CNC controllers
• industrial robots
• data display units
• instruments
• printers
• modems

If I'm mistaken, no biggie, I only paid $15 for it.

I think it might be the other way round, it serves a faxmodem and printer to the LAN... Howwwwever, the serial should be bidirectional at least so you might be able to use that with a nullmodem (crossover) cable, remembering it will expect a DCE connection when the PC end is DTE. ... I always wondered if you could get 4 bit PLIP working with print servers though if it passes back the control line signals.

Telnet Server for Device Management
Management of workstations, routers and other equipment through Telnet
sessions is accomplished by defining the UTS as a Telnet server. The UTS
accepts connections over the network and so “connects” directly to the serial
port.
It is necessary to either set the port number to 23 (the Telnet” service standard)
or to explicitly enable the Telnet functionality by setting bit6 (hex 40) in the
disconnect mode.
Recommended settings:
Connect Mode: C0 (or 40 if inactive DTR signals that the device is not
available)
Disconnect Mode: 40 (to enable telnet server)
Flush Mode: 80
Sendchars: 0A 0A (line feed)
The interface mode will usually be 4C (N81, RS.232)
Example: PC or ASCII Terminal to UTS

Bought a kinda unusual CPU today, saw this Intel 486 DX-50 going for 20 bucks and realized its one of them oddball DX varieties where its not a clock doubled DX2 version but a pure 50Mhz FSB version.

I dont have one of these in the collection yet so itll be a fun little CPU to play around with, should in theory be quite a fast little CPU.

Bought this nice early 486 EISA kit for my 486 build. Have never works with the EISA so it will be a good journey 😀
Seller has no any EISA config files, there will be another task how to configure all this stuff. At least it can boot.
Based on my research it looks identical to this board: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/digicom-digis-486e
